What’s Changing

To finish Filipino (North) American History Month, I’d like to introduce you to my new friend, Ben.

Ben is a Filipino-Canadian whose career has always been deeply involved with the immigrant communities of Canada, in particular immigrant Filipino youth and the Queer community.

Now, in addition to working as an Urban Development consultant and teaching full time, he is earning his PhD at U of T, focused on Social Justice Education and Filipino equity, diversity and inclusion.

He took time out of his busy schedule to meet me at the University of Toronto campus, where he gave me a personal tour of his academic stomping grounds.

During our time together, he shared with me what the Filipino Queer community is facing and how that is literally shaping the landscape of urban centers, not only in Toronto, but all around the world.
